ODILON REDON BOUQUET OF FLOWERS Odilon Redon (France,1840-1916) was one of the most enigmatic and visionary figures of the Symbolist movement. His work intially explored the shadowy realms of the human psyche, expressed in a striking series of charcoal drawings and lithographs, collectively known as the "noirs." These monochrome pieces involved the world of dreams, nightmares and the subconscious. Around 1890, however, Redon began devoting himself to works in color, particularly pastels and oils. He developed a vibrant palette depicting lush floral arrangements, mythological scenes, and radiant portraits. While still retaining a dreamlike quality, these effervescent works celebrate the expressive and spiritual use of color. Our joyful vase is inspired by his pastel painting, Bouquet of Flowers.
